Follow with me how the narrative of the Houthis entering Al-Turbah began, who reported it, and how true is it?

Since this morning, I have been tracking the news of the Houthis seizing control of the city of Al-Turbah, verifying its authenticity, its sources, and the trajectory of its transmission across media outlets. I contacted residents in the city, officials, and military sources, and I have come away with the following for you👇🏼👇🏼 First: Residents and local sources in Al-Turbah stated that the Houthis did not enter the city, and that what sparked the belief that it had fallen was the emergence of elements present inside chanting the Houthi slogan (Sarkha). According to this account, the security services dealt with those elements and carried out a campaign to pursue those suspected of links to sleeper cells, while Al-Turbah remained under government forces' control. The same sources say that Al-Safiyah has not fallen permanently. Military sources stated: Violent clashes are taking place on the outskirts of the city of Al-Turbah, specifically in the areas of Dhabhan, Jabal Al-Afa, and Al-Qurayshah, and the city itself has not been taken over. Through chronological tracking, the narrative took shape in two stages: 1. Laying the groundwork for the rumor: Prior to Sunday's developments, accounts on "X" and Facebook circulated old clips claiming to document the Houthis' arrival in Al-Turbah. One clip dates back to tribal clashes in Marib in May, and a post by the account "Ammar Al-Alqami" garnered more than 140,000 views. Another clip dating back to September 16 showing government reinforcements moving from Aden was also used and presented as a Houthi convoy entering Al-Turbah.
2. The field development that relaunched it: On Sunday morning, October 4, reports emerged of Houthi groups arriving in Al-Safiyah and Al-Samsarah and severing the Taiz–Al-Turbah–Aden road. During those hours, local reports were talking about fighting approaching Al-Turbah, not about the fall of the city.
3. The shift from "cutting the road" to "entering the city": Media outlets close to the Houthis, including "Al-Khabar Al-Yemeni", "Al-Masaa Press", and "Taiz Al-Youm", carried accounts of government vehicles withdrawing, then raised the ceiling of the news to the beginning of Houthi forces entering the city of Al-Turbah, relying on clips from activists and unnamed local sources.
4. The narrative reaching Arab media: "Sky News Arabia" was the most prominent Arab outlet to report the news of the Houthis entering the city, at approximately 17:42, attributing it to "Yemeni sources." The narrative then appeared in "Erem News", "Al-Ain News", and other outlets, each attributing it to unnamed local or Yemeni sources.
5. What did Agence France-Presse say? AFP did not say that the Houthis entered the city of Al-Turbah. Its report talked about seizing control of Al-Safiyah, the police station, and cutting the main road, and confirmed the continuation of clashes. Some websites that republished the agency's report used the headline "Siege of Taiz", but the text of the report did not include the fall of Al-Turbah.
6. Reuters and the Associated Press: Up to the time of this monitoring, I have not found a report from Reuters or the Associated Press confirming the Houthis entering the city of Al-Turbah or its fall.
7. The opposing narrative: Deputy Head of Moral Guidance in the Taiz Axis Abdul-Basit Al-Bahr told Al-Araby Television that what took place was a limited breach in the Al-Safiyah area, and that the Houthi groups were surrounded, denying the fall of the road or the city. However, the area remains an open battlefield, and lines of control within it are fluid; therefore, refuting news of Al-Turbah's fall does not mean the danger to it has passed, and any narrative of an advance or withdrawal requires continuous verification before being adopted. #Ahmed_Al-Shalfi
