*An attack that almost turned into a disaster: Militia missiles and drones target Aden airport and threaten a passenger plane arriving from Cairo* Ballistic missiles and explosive drones threatened civil aviation traffic at Aden International Airport at dawn on Wednesday, following a Houthi attack that the Yemeni government stated almost endangered a civilian passenger plane minutes before its landing. The Yemeni Ministry of Transport said that the Houthis targeted the airport with two ballistic missiles and a number of explosive drones, explaining that one of the two missiles fell near the airport runway minutes before the scheduled landing of Yemenia flight number (603) arriving from Cairo with civilian passengers on board. The ministry added that the attack coincided with the presence of travelers at the airport waiting for a flight bound for Jeddah at 3:00 AM, alongside the presence of two planes on the airport tarmac, one belonging to Yemenia and the other to Aden Air. Following the attack, the competent authorities canceled the landing of the flight arriving from Cairo and diverted its route to Jeddah, and they also evacuated the two planes present at the airport, moving them away from the danger zone, coinciding with the detection of drones in the airspace of Aden. The Ministry of Transport considered targeting the airport a dangerous escalation and a threat to the safety of air navigation and the lives of travelers and workers, calling on the international community and organizations concerned with civil aviation, foremost among them the International Civil Aviation Organization, to condemn the attack and work to protect airports and commercial aviation from military targeting. For its part, the Yemeni Ministry of Human Rights condemned the attack, considering it a violation of the rules of international humanitarian law and a threat to the lives of civilians, their security, and their freedom of movement, demanding that the United Nations, the Security Council, and international organizations take measures to protect civilian facilities and hold those responsible for targeting them accountable. The targeting of Aden airport comes concurrently with Houthi shelling that hit residential areas in the city of Taiz and resulted, according to received information, in the injury of five civilians.
