Government forces break militia advances and retake strategic heights in Taiz and Lahj More details 👇🏻 *The militia's attacks over the past hours collided with a military response from government forces on the Taiz and Lahj fronts, amid announcements of retaking strategic mountainous sites and heights, coinciding with continuous airstrikes and drone attacks targeting military positions and movements across several fronts.* Government forces, with the participation of the Homeland Shield Forces, the Giants Brigades, and tribal fighters, announced taking control of the summit of Mount Nu'man and Dar Al-Kafir, which overlook the districts of Al-Wazi'iyah in Taiz and Al-Madaribah in Lahj, in a development that grants the forces elevated positions overlooking areas and routes connecting western Taiz with its south. These developments come amid continued clashes on the fronts of Kahbub, Al-Wazi'iyah, Al-Kadhah, Hayfan, and Al-Maqatirah, where government forces seek to consolidate their positions and secure the roads linking Taiz, Lahj, and Aden, following weeks of escalating battles in the areas surrounding the West Coast and Bab al-Mandab. On the western Taiz fronts, government forces announced shooting down drones and targeting militia gatherings and sites, while Al-Ahkum and Al-Maqatirah saw clashes and reciprocal shelling, amid ongoing military operations along the lines of contact. Politically, the Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council, Rashad Al-Alimi, said during his meeting with the British Ambassador to Yemen, Abda Sharif, on September 24, that the armed forces had moved from the phase of containing attacks to "retaking the initiative and enhancing deterrence capability," affirming that recent developments on the West Coast pushed toward unifying ranks, and calling for greater international support for government forces. Al-Alimi warned against the continuation of the policy of containing the militia, considering that any truce that does not prevent rearmament could lead to new rounds of escalation, and linked the security of the Red Sea and Bab al-Mandab to the presence of a Yemeni state capable of extending its control over its territory, coasts, and territorial waters. Humanitarily, the escalating fighting has prompted large waves of displacement from the combat zones, as the latest government report cited by news sources confirmed an increase in the number of displaced persons since early September to over 180,000 people, after the Executive Unit for IDP Camps Management had documented approximately 147,000 displaced persons up to September 18, with Taiz at that time being the largest governorate hosting displaced people.
