Yemen holds Iran responsible, Coalition vows response to Houthis for targeting civilians in Riyadh and Saudi cities The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates in Yemen held the Houthi militias responsible on Saturday for the Houthi attacks against Saudi Arabia and their consequences, and held the Iranian regime responsible for its continued military support to them and enabling them to continue their attacks in service of its regional agenda at the expense of Yemen's sovereignty, the interests of its people, and the security of neighboring countries. The ministry condemned in the strongest terms the launch by the Iranian-backed terrorist Houthi militias of a ballistic missile toward the city of Riyadh, and their attempts to target civilians and civilian objects in Baysh, Taif, Farasan, and Yanbu in the sisterly Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized that supporting the Yemeni state and its legitimate institutions and enabling it to extend its authority over all its territory, coasts, and ports is an essential pillar for protecting Yemen, safeguarding its sovereignty, and preventing the use of its lands as a launchpad for aggression against neighboring countries and threatening international navigation. It called on the international community to unite efforts and translate supportive positions into effective measures to enforce relevant Security Council resolutions and disrupt the militias' support networks in a manner that curbs their ability to continue attacks. In a statement, the ministry affirmed the Republic of Yemen's full solidarity with the Kingdom—leadership, government, and people—and its support for the legitimate measures taken by the Kingdom and the Coalition to Support Legitimacy to deter attacks and protect the Kingdom's security, sovereignty, territorial integrity, citizens, and residents. The ministry stressed that these attacks, and those preceding them over the past days, represent a flagrant violation of the Kingdom's sovereignty and a threat to civilian safety, and come as an extension of the Houthi escalation in Yemen and threats to international navigation, undermining regional security and stability. Interception and destruction of a ballistic missile toward Riyadh: The Coalition to Support Legitimacy in Yemen announced on Saturday the interception and destruction of a ballistic missile launched by the Houthi militia toward the Saudi capital, Riyadh, in the latest escalation targeting cities and civilian objects in the Kingdom. The official spokesman for the Coalition forces, Major General Turki Al-Malki, stated that the Royal Saudi Air Defense Forces succeeded at dawn on Saturday, September 19, 2026, in intercepting and destroying the ballistic missile before it reached its target. Al-Malki emphasized that the Houthi militia's continued attempts to target civilians and civilian objects in Riyadh—home to more than eight million citizens and residents—reflects its deliberate and systematic persistence in targeting civilians and civilian objects, representing hostile and terrorist conduct. He noted that the Houthi militia also attempted to target civilians and civilian objects in the cities of Baysh, Taif, Farasan, and Yanbu, confirming that the air defenses foiled those hostile attempts. The Coalition spokesman stressed that the Coalition command reserves its inherent right to take whatever measures it deems appropriate to deter these attacks, in accordance with the provisions of international humanitarian law and its customary rules.
