💢Establishing the Proof that Aiding the Truth is: with Wealth, the Spear, Argument, and Clear Exposition💢 Indeed, among the ways of Allah in His creation is that truth does not stand on its own without truthful bearers who explain it to people and brave men who repel from it the distortion of the extremists and the plagiarism of the falsifiers with tongue and spear. Allah the Exalted said: {And if Allah did not repel some people by means of others, the earth would surely be corrupted} [Al-Baqarah: 251]. 📒Jihad, from this aspect, is of three categories:
💰With wealth, in that which strengthens the truth and its people. He, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said: "Fight the polytheists with your wealth, your lives, and your tongues." [Narrated by Abu Dawood, Al-Nasa'i, Ahmad, and Al-Darimi, and it is an authentic hadith]. Jihad is not only with weapons and lives, but rather also with wealth, and how often Allah has placed wealth before others in the religious texts because it is the driver of most causes of the three types of jihad. The Exalted said: {And strive in the cause of Allah with your wealth and your lives; that is better for you, if you only knew} [Al-Saff: 11], {And strive with your wealth and your lives in the cause of Allah; that is better for you, if you only knew} [Surat Al-Tawbah: 41]. 🛫With lives and weapons in battles against the disbelievers, and this is plain and clear. ✍️And with the tongue, argument, clear exposition, and calling to the One, the Requiter among the sons of the Muslims, as well as refuting the doubts of the hypocrites and the rest of the polytheists. The Exalted said: {So do not obey the disbelievers, and strive against them with it in a great striving} [Al-Furqan: 52], meaning strive against them with the Quran and the clarification of the arguments it contains that refute what they fabricate. In the aforementioned hadith is his saying, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him: "and your tongues," and what indicates that will also come in the hadith of Ibn Mas'ood, may Allah be pleased with him. This is the jihad of the tongue, the pen, and the fingertips. This clarifies to you that the truth needs those who explain it, clarify it, and defend it; it needs those who make it manifest so that ignorance vanishes, just as light needs someone to kindle it to dispel the darkness, for truth may be mixed with falsehood, and falsehood may be adorned until it is thought to be the truth. Then the people of knowledge and the callers to Allah come and distinguish between truth and falsehood, and separate them by the scale of the law and sound reason, until nothing remains except the pure, unblemished truth. The truth is not known by men; rather, men are known by the truth. Whoever conforms to the truth is among its people, and whoever opposes it, it is obligatory to make clear his opposition and refute him. It is not sufficient that we know the truth within ourselves; rather, the obligation is to make it manifest, support it, and defend it, because concealing it is a betrayal of the trust that Allah has placed upon the Ummah. Among them are the people of knowledge who went out to seek knowledge, dedicated themselves to it, and then returned to their people calling to Allah. {And it was not for the believers to go out all at once; why did not a party from every group of them go forth to obtain understanding in the religion and to warn their people when they return to them that they might beware?} [Al-Tawbah: 122]. About those, the Exalted said: {Indeed, those who conceal what We have sent down of clear proofs and guidance after We have made it clear to the people in the Book - those, Allah curses them, and the cursers curse them} [Al-Baqarah: 159]. For this reason, the scholars and callers were the inheritors of the prophets, clarifying to people the landmarks of truth and the paths to aiding it, and tearing down the doubts of the people of falsehood with argument and proof. He, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said: "Never was a prophet sent by Allah to a nation before me except that he had among his nation disciples and companions, adopting his Sunnah and following his command. Then after them there succeed successors who say what they do not do, and do what they are not commanded. So whoever strives against them with his hand is a believer, whoever strives against them with his tongue is a believer, and whoever strives against them with his heart is a believer, and beyond that there is not of faith even a mustard seed." Muslim narrated it in his Sahih on the authority of Abdullah bin Mas'ood, may Allah be pleased with him. If the people of truth abandon the clarification of what they possess, the people of falsehood grow bold in spreading their misguidance, so the people fall into temptation and discord. Therefore, it is obligatory upon the Muslim to be a caller to the truth according to his knowledge, proficient in presenting it, gentle in his preaching, patient under harm, certain of the promise of Allah, as He, Glorified is He, said: {So be patient; indeed, the ultimate outcome is for the righteous} [Hud: 49]. Truth does not triumph through convulsions or through dreams and visions; rather, it triumphs through knowledge, wisdom, and clear exposition, through truthfulness and sincerity, through patience and steadfastness, and through spending in avenues of good deeds. Nothing has ever failed the truth at any time except the silence of its people regarding it, or the weakness of their jealousy for it, or their lack of cooperation in it. So when someone stands up to explain it and defend it with argument, Allah abolishes falsehood with it. The Exalted said: {Rather, We cast the truth against falsehood, and it smashes its head, and behold, it perishes} [Al-Anbiya: 18]. So let us all be among the callers to the truth, the supporters of our religion and its bearers, cooperating in its path; for in aiding the truth is aid to the religion, elevation for the Ummah, and blessing in this worldly life and the Hereafter. Supporting the truth includes supporting its bearers among the students of knowledge, callers, and scholars by all available means; whoever does so has shared with them in goodness, reward, and recompense, and whoever does the opposite and wages war against them has waged war against the religion of Allah. In summary: Efforts must be joined, cooperation established, and focus not placed on one side to the exclusion of the other. If you want to prepare for a battle, you need weapons and the preparation of fighters, and this can only be through wealth. Likewise is the preparation of students of knowledge, callers to Allah, and scholars, caring for them, safeguarding them, and dedicating them to knowledge and disseminating it across the horizons. Their jihad in our time is the greatest jihad since the jihad of battles cannot be undertaken; so the Muslim transitions to the jihad through knowledge and empowering its people. Praise be to Allah who made the truth clear to whoever seeks it sincerely, and Allah is the Grantor of success. May Allah send peace and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon his family and all his companions. Written by:
