Yemen hands the Libyan government a memorandum of protest over the statements of the Mufti of Libya The Ambassador of Yemen to Libya, Dr. Hassan Al-Hard, handed the Deputy Prime Minister of the Libyan Government of National Unity, Salem Al-Zadma, a copy of the memorandum addressed to the Libyan Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation regarding the Yemeni government's protest and denunciation of the statements issued by the Mufti of Libya, Al-Sadiq Al-Ghariani, on September 16, 2026, regarding the war in Yemen, which the Yemeni government considered an inaccurate characterization contrary to reality. The memorandum, alongside the embassy's statement, included an explanation of the Yemeni government's position regarding those statements and the stances they contained regarding the Yemeni issue and the Houthi militias supported by the Iranian regime. Ambassador Al-Hard also reviewed with the Libyan Deputy Prime Minister the developments of the situation in Yemen and the repercussions of the recent escalation by the terrorist Houthi militias, as well as the coordination and cooperation between the terrorist Houthi militias and militias and armed groups in Africa, particularly the Al-Shabaab movement in Somalia, and what might result from that in terms of a growing network of security threats in the Red Sea. He pointed to the humanitarian repercussions of the Houthi escalation on the West Coast and the waves of displacement it caused, explaining the displacement of more than 140,000 people, particularly in the governorates of Taiz and Hodeidah, and the need for urgent aid to provide shelter, food, medical care, and other basic needs for the affected.
